About Fauna

Image
In my career besides to know about trees, is necessary to know about fauna. The birds are very important in the forest field that they have a great role for seed dispersal, and many times the birds act as pest controllers, besides they are necessary for the maintenance of the food chain. Today I am going to talk about a beautiful bird: the Chincol J It is an endemic bird of Chile, that is, this bird lives only this country and we can see it mainly in countries, hills, gardens, and plazas, and throughout most of the country, both in rural and urban areas. It is a little bird, 15 cm approximately of long, and it has very particularities characteristic: an orange neck and three black lines on its grey head, is a bird very easy to recognize and their cheeping is very pleasant to the ear. This bird is very friendly, and it doesn’t fear humans. In my courtyard always many birds arrive, thrushes, turtledove, and my loved chincoles, with my family we like feed them, and give them w

My favorite tree

Image
In my forest engineering career I have seen a lot tree, but until now, my favorite tree is the Canelo, his scientific name is Drimys winteri , and this an endemic and native tree of Chile and Argentina. Drimys winteri , is a sacred tree for the Mapuche people.   The wood is a light reddish color, the flowers are white and small, and the leaves are shining green and cloudy on the underside, by this last characteristic is called “the tree of the silver”. This tree is very interesting because is a transition between gymnosperms and angiosperms, two group very important in the vegetal taxonomy. Drimys winteri belongs to plants with flower (angiosperms), but in its structure it has tracheid, a particulate characteristic of gymnosperms. The Canelo has in its bark tannins, a natural protection against insect, and besides this tree has high concentration of vitamin C, even more that fruits like oranges and lemons. This tree really is unique on the world and I love it J My friends n

An expert on my field

Image
Today, I am go to talk about an expert on my forest field, I started studying forestry two year ago, and I have met many professionals, they have given me much knowledge, and I admire many of my teachers, but today, I chose a one of them to talk on my blog: Juan Pablo Fuentes . This expert on my forest field is my teacher since my first year at university; he has taught me subjects related to geology, soil, geomorphology, ecosystems, ecosystem processes, etc. The first semester that he was my professor, the true, I didn’t consider him an entertaining person, to fact, I got bored in his class, but in the second semester, my opinion about him completely change. I realized that he is a person who has a great knowledge. From the second semester to the present day, he has been very interactive with his students, and he converts complicated lessons in interesting and simple topics. He has shown me that thing as simple as solid, really are fragile elements. He is a great expert on my f

And of course, to mix the principal ingredient: Cheese, a lot cheese. Also, you can include some dressing, in my pizza can’t miss a touch of oregano. With my friends, we go to the “Festín Romano” at least once month. This promotion consists of a kind buffeted, where you can eat all kind of pizza, but randomly. It’s very great and as well as cheap. I know that pizza isn’t healthy food, but I love it, I deceive to myself thinking that pizza contain a lot vegetables necessary for my health.

A PHOTOGRAPH

Image
This photograph is of my times of “mechona”, a magnificent time, where all was much simpler and beautiful. What a good times… I miss then For a subject related with botany, everybody had to make an “Herbal”, what is it? Herbal is a collection of plants dried and compressed, also includes a fact sheet, with information of the forest species, of the place where the plant was found and information of collector. With some of my friends, one day we went to “Cajón del Maipo”, we walk too much, and we arrived to the top of a mountain, where we had a spectacular view. In this photograph I’m with two of my best friends, Bernardita and Alexis, the last one was our guide, luckily we didn’t get lost. That day we did a long walk, we all fell to the ground more than once, at the end of the day, we didn’t have any plant collected, but it was a unforgettable experience.     :D
